Nurseries and kindergartens

Ministry provides free kindergartens for Kuwaiti children from 4 to 6 years old. For refugee children or immigrants from 2 to 4 years old, there are a large number of emigrant schools. They are registered with the Department of Private Education at the Ministry of Education.

In addition, there are several kindergartens organized by emigrants in the country. Most kindergartens are part of a basic school for ex-pat children in Kuwait.

Primary, transitional and secondary education

Private schools for children of Arab immigrants receive generous state support, in particular for the construction of schools and the provision of free textbooks. Separate assistance is also provided for non-Arab schools. Private schools for non-Arab children follow their country's programs. The school year begins in mid-September and lasts until mid-June. Emigrant schools usually have 3 days off in October; holidays two weeks twice a year and all official holidays. The training week runs from Saturday to Wednesday. Classes in many schools begin at 7:45 and end at 2 o’clock.

University and Adult Education

Kuwait has a selection of schools for language learning and business training. These institutes offer various courses in business training, secretarial duties, computer, and languages. The University of Kuwait was founded in 1966, the purpose of its creation is to

ensure an academic, professional and technical revival, as well as providing the country with a scientifically and practically qualified workforce for various fields. The University of Kuwait is open to ex-pat students, given their level of compliance with admission requirements. Adult and vocational education is funded by the state and carried out by the Public Committee for Applied Education and Training (JCEP). OKPOO has four full-time colleges and 24 specialized and industrial training centers. There are several private institutions in the country that offer a variety of full-time and part-time courses on various topics. School attendance in Kuwait is mandatory for all children from 6 to 14 years old. Public education for Kuwaiti children is provided free of charge. All schools, private and public, are managed by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education. School attendance is limited to Kuwaiti children. The Department of Private Education at the Ministry of Education controls all foreign schools in Kuwait that must be registered with this department. The control over the qualifications of personnel and funds in these schools and regular visits to inspectors of the Ministry guarantee compliance with the established rules. The ministry also oversees tuition fees.
