One of the most important challenges facing new webmasters is acquiring backlinks for his or her sites.
Many new webmasters with a commercial orientation will have affiliate pages with Google Page Rank zero.  Link exchanges are going to be hard to accumulate as experienced webmasters are going to be concerned about linking to bad domains. And directories often deny affiliate links, especially if they are deep links and without the rank of Google Page

This article will, therefore, outline a couple of strategies that even new webmasters can use to make backlinks for his or her sites.

Article Submission
Affiliate programs often provide marketing articles for his or her affiliates to use. While posting these straight onto article directories is usually forbidden (and bad, because it can incur duplicate content penalties), they will easily be rewritten into original pieces. If not, a fanatical webmaster should be ready to write a piece of writing about almost anything after a touch of research. Other webmasters, once posted, often take those articles and place them on their own sites.  Good articles can, therefore, be propagated over many sites. One article that I wrote last month was listed on 50 sites within every week, and that I only submitted it to five directories.

User Profiles

User profiles on sites like Yahoo and internet forums often contain do-follow links. So make sure that you fill in all the details.

Forum Signatures
While forums always frown upon new members posting links and spamming them, many allow users to post links in their signatures. Joining in with discussions can, therefore, create a couple of links.

Flickr
Nofollow links are often placed within the text descriptions that accompany each photo. This can be a superb strategy if you've got photos associated with your website or pages.

Social Bookmarking

Some social bookmarking sites, like Digg, use do-follow links. Note, however, that a lot of don't wish to be spammed. So don't abuse these sites or your account might be closed.

Site Information Pages
Sites like whois.sc provide reports on any website. If these pages are accessed via dynamic URL's, then the user can help the program spiders to index these pages by pointing external links at them. I often do this via social bookmarking or blogs.

Create a Blog
Write a blog and post anything you think goes through your mind.  I often just write a dream diary. Use your blog to link back to your website.
