Benefits of Exercising at Home
Working out in a gym can be just what you need to get in shape. There is a friendly competition with the other members working out near you. You can meet new friends who encourage you to attend the gym. Plus, most gyms have great equipment that makes exercise fun and much simpler.
Then again, there is just as good home exercise equipment out on the market. You can buy the same exercise balls and exercise bands that the gym has. Treadmills and exercise bikes are available for everyday consumers, too. What's more, the gym tends to be loud (and sometimes smelly!). There can be too many unfriendly meatheads and mirror divas strutting around. And it can cost serious cash.
Obviously, there are serious pros and cons to both sides of the argument. But if you tend to enjoy working out on your schedule and on your own, you may want to consider working out at home. It's also a great bet if you can afford the investment in the gym home equipment, including exercise balls, exercise bands, exercise bikes, abdominals machines, and other exercise equipment.
If you do choose to work out at home, be sure to include all forms of exercise. There are three major exercises that make for a balanced exercise routine. These are strength, aerobic, and flexibility training.
For aerobic exercise, you can rely on treadmills or exercise bikes. Or you could jog outside, go for a bike ride, or even power walk to your nearby mall. Strength training generally requires weights, machines, or exercise bands.
The key is putting resistance, or weight, on your muscles to make them work. More than the other exercises, the gym might have the upper hand on home workouts when it comes to strength training.
Lastly, be sure to stretch and do other flexibility exercises. These are essential for your overall balance and muscle health. Some experts even believe stretching, tai chi, yoga, and other flexibility programs can reduce your risk of injury.
Put all three types of exercise together - at home, on the road, or at the gym - and you are bound to feel healthier, more fit, and more confident.
