KUWAIT SCIENCE--KISR--KNFP

KISR

Kuwait takes science as the foundation of its modern development. He established specialized scientific organizations that can take on the work in the field of academic research, the ultimate goal of which is the construction of modern Kuwait. These organizations are Kuwait
Fund for Scientific Progress (KFNP), the Kuwait Research Institute
(KNII) and the Science Club.
Kuwait Fund for Scientific Progress (KFNP): KFNP is considered one of the most prominent organizations in Kuwait. In general, the idea of his institution belongs to His Highness Emir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, in 1976, when he was the Crown Prince and was an attempt to encourage and support scientific research

KFNP plays an important role in financing research projects carried out by various scientific
organizations. He also collaborates with similar organizations internationally. The Foundation offers the following awards as an incentive for research:
* Kuwait Prize, awarded annually in various fields of science and art at local and international levels.
* Prizes for authors and translators presented during the annual book fair held in Kuwait.
* Encouragement of eminent university and college graduates.

The foundation also makes large-scale contributions to the publishing field. He published a large number of scientific books and created films and biographies of Arab and foreign scholars to highlight their contribution to science. His Highness, Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, who sponsored the opening of the new KFNP building in 1978, heads the Foundation. Kuwait Research Institute (KNII): The KNII plays an outstanding role in the field of scientific and technological research and consultations and in orienting them to the social and economic development of Kuwait. This was achieved through close cooperation with sister organizations and institutions of the country.

The Research Institute was founded in 1967 and at that time its activity was limited to preliminary study and observation in the field of agriculture. According to a decree issued in 1981, the KNII became a state institute of scientific research, acting autonomously according to a clearly defined scientific strategy with the following objectives:
* To encourage Kuwaiti citizens to engage in scientific research and inculcate in the young generation an interest in scientific research.
* Study, development, use, and protection of natural resources, especially water, marine resources, energy and agricultural resources.
* Carrying out technological and scientific research and providing scientific advice to state bodies.
* Analysis of global development in the fields of science and technology and its application in local conditions.
* Establishment and development of scientific cooperation through joint research and information exchange programs with academic and technological institutes, both local and foreign.

The Institute has achieved positive results, and its programs are now being implemented in many
areas. For example, in an attempt to develop food resources, the Institute was successful in developing techniques for the production of new fish species and in discovering a protein

that can be used to feed animals. Research has also been conducted to improve agricultural production; certain types of plants have been developed that can now be grown in a waterfront project. Scientific research was also carried out in the field of desalination of seawater by the reverse osmosis method and new projects were developed for computers, used to predict the low spread of oil spills on coastal waters. Studies have also been conducted on the use of solar energy in chemical processes.

Since its inception, the Research Institute has assisted in the training of nationally qualified personnel. He also helps establish training systems to improve the knowledge and professionalism of institute researchers, especially young cadres.

The new office, opened in 1986, helped the institute redouble its research efforts. Now he takes the fifth place among 50 scientific institutions of the Third World. Science Club: The founding of the Science Club was the first step towards creating a generation with a scientific orientation.
Such science clubs will be the starting point for young Kuwaitis as they become scientists in the future. The club includes an observatory, which provides tremendous assistance in teaching astronomy to young people. He receives financial support from KFNP and KNII.

In addition to these efforts in the field of scientific research, the use of computers has become widespread in all government bodies, institutes, companies, banks, and educational organizations. This is one of the indicators showing that Kuwait is on its way to a comprehensive process.
